"Yes, I know what day it is." Daniel sits on the floor and tries not to watch him because his antics are making him both sick and a little manic.
"He's going to leave us in here for this entire day, you know this right?" Ross bites his nails and stares at the floor without lifting his head to speak to Daniel.
"Yeah, I know this. He's left us in here for over a week, I'm sure the group thinks we're dead." Daniel tries to calm him down, but then realizes that this approach is probably having the opposite effect.
"Yeah, maybe that's the best. She's leaving today, you know right?" Ross still doesn't look at Daniel.
"Yeah I know, Anne is number 52"
"You think she's leaving, you think she's still alive to leave?" Ross pauses and his eyes move around, not really looking at anything other than possible scenarios in his imagination.
"I'm sure she is, if she wasn't he'd probably have sent you back to the room so you'd know this and would be tortured by her death." Daniel again thinks of his words after he speaks, and while in his head it sounded logical, saying it sounds horrible.
"Yeah, you're right, she's alive. She's going to leave today, she's going home. Home to her fiancee. I'm sure he's been miserable not seeing her, not knowing where she is, not being able to hold her close and feel how she breathes just slightly off when she's about to fall asleep." He stops and runs his finger over the wall as if there were some sort of seam there, but there is not. She'll have to go to a hospital for sure, get checked out, probably go tot he FBI and answer some questions, you know."
"Yeah, probably."Daniel replies
"But I'm sure he'll be waiting for her the whole time, you know, he'll be holding her hand, letting her head rest on his shoulder, smelling her hair and enjoying the way it feels when it hits the underside of his face. You know?"
"Yeah buddy, probably."
"They'll most likely speed up the wedding date, you know, because she'll just want to do it right when she gets home, feel normal, start a new life away from this one, have someone to protect you all the time. Someone to hold onto all night long so you remember where you are and where you aren't. He'll wake up with her, make her breakfast, you know, he'll be really really good for her." Ross nods his head, reassuring himself.
"Yeah, he probably will."
"Yeah, he must be a good guy if she already said yes to marry him. Or lucky, just incredibly lucky."
"You think so? Like you believe in luck?" Daniel looks at him and Ross looks over back at him for the first time in this conversation.
"Oh God yeah. He's incredibly lucky to have a girl like her. She's smart, she's beautiful, she's funny sometimes."
"Well no girl is funny all the time." Daniel confirms Ross's choice of words.
"Well no, unless they're funny looking. She likes movies, she's into so much cool stuff and yet she's this lovely flower who has a dance to her walk. Its rhythmic, she has this bounce to her step that she's cant help but do, and you watch from behind."
"Yeah, you're watching her from behind for her walk." Daniel smirks.
"Oh well yeah, she's got a great butt also, but its more about he walk, the way her thighs flex yet stay soft, its just amazing, I could watch her walk by me all day long. As long as I knew she'd eventually stop at me." he pauses again and pinches the bridge of his nose. "But yeah, he's lucky, lucky to have a girl like that, and he better know it. I swear if he's one of those guys, that you know, takes their amazing woman for granted and feels she should be thinking she's the lucky one..oh man, what if she's with some douche bag?!" Ross again turns to Daniel.
"She's not with douche-bag."
"She could be! Pretty girls are always with douche bags!"
"No they're not. Come on."
"Have you ever seen a douche bag out in public?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Was he with an ugly chick?"
"um..."
"EXACTLY! Damn it he's such a douche! Why? Why does she do this, why is she going back to him?! I'm right here, I can be a douche if that's what she likes." Ross tries to walk all cocky and puffs out his chest.
"No you couldn't."
"Daniel, whats your favorite food?"
"Uh, Pizza I guess, why?"
"That's what gay guys eat. Pizza."
"What?!"
"That was douchey right?"
"No that was just stupid. You love pizza."
"Yeah, I do love pizza." his head hangs low and he looks down at his size. "No. No I don't."
"You don't like pizza now? Two days ago you sat that and listed every kind you could think of and ever ate, I wanted to kill you."
"No, I don't LOVE pizza, I like pizza. its good, its tasty, I enjoy it now and then, but not every day. Not all the time, I don't want pizza and only pizza for the rest of my life."
"What do you want for the rest of your life every day?"
"HER! Damn it! I want her!" he screams out and pounds the door. "How did you do this?! How did you lose the one you love Daniel and then keep going?! HOW?!"
"I didn't. That Daniel died with her. You become someone else, you're not you anymore, your brain makes you be different because the other you just shuts down and goes away." Daniel stands up and walks over to him. "You live a lie of yourself."
"Its probably best I don't see her leave, it would kill me. And its probably for the better she walks out of here and I don't tell her any of this, and she just leaves, and goes back to the douche bag and I'll just, like you said, go on living a lie."
"Yeah probably."
With that the door in the room opens, the two of them look at one another and see a long corridor. "An escape?" Ross looks at Daniel and then back down the hall.
"Most likely its sending us back to the room." he starts to move towards the exit.
"Are we to late? Do we know what time it is?!"
"Knowing Cipher we won't make it, we'll just get there and she'll have just left." there's a silence between the two for what seems like an eternity and then they turn and bolt down the hall. They run at full speed the corridor seems to go on forever. "Come on!" Daniel screams to Ross and to his credit for his size he's keeping right up with him.
They finally see a door and they burst through to find themselves in one of the smaller rooms on the four walls. The locate the wall that they think has the door back to the main room, they push but its locked. "COME ON! Open the door!"
A speaker crackles "Say the magic word." Cipher's voice taunts them.
"Please! Open Sesame! Abracadabra! Shazam!" Ross screams out everything he can possibly think of, and it works the door opens. The burst into the room to see what's left of the group standing in the middle and Anne walking towards the door on the far other end of the room. "Wait!" he screams.
The group turns and sees the two of them falling through the open door and running into the room. Anne continues to move toward the now open door on the far South wall.
"Wait please! Anne! Please! Anne, don't go! Anne...Anne! I LOVE YOU!" He shouts and several of the women in the group begin to tear up including Liz and she turns back to see if Anne has reacted at all, but her pace has only quickened and she's just two feet from the door. "ANNE!" he shouts again and the two of them reach the group just as Anne makes her way through the door Ross sees the light of one of the P90 sites reflect off a large metal headband across Anne's head. The door closes behind her and she's gone. "What was on her head?"
"She was crying all night, we all were, about her leaving and you not being here, she said it was killing her to leave and not know if you were dead or not. Cipher told her to say her final good byes to everyone and dropped in a pair of headphones to put on to ease her pain of leaving. He said she should tell those she loves here good bye and not look back or have to hear the cries of everyone who was staying behind, and if she looked back he'd have the P90s shoot us so that her last image was her causing us pain." Liz holds Ross's hands and tries to explain.
He pants, and catches his breath, "So she left thinking I was dead?"
Scott steps closer, "We told her you two had to be dead, because we figured Cipher would have sent you sooner so you would have to watch her leave and it would just cause you so much pain."
The monitor turns on. "Look at that. Both groups were kinda right and yet, kinda wrong at the same time. You got here in time to tell her, but, she couldn't hear you. She could have turned around to see you one more time and know your alive, but, she followed the rules and kept everyone safe. So everyone was both kinda right and yet both kinda wrong, well except me, I was right on everything, I knew exactly how this would go down." The monitor blinks off and the rooms lights dim, its the end of Day 52, not the beginning as Ross and Daniel had thought.
