It would happen every few hours, a mist would spray from the sprinkler system, so light it would basically float down to them just barely leaving any dampness on their clothes or skin. But it wasn't about the amount of it, or how soaked they got, it was the taste. You couldn't help but taste it in the air, like you just bit into a raw steak or you brushed your teeth too hard. The blood was just in the air all day, but at some point it stopped and water ran from the sprinklers cleaning off the walls and floor but it just didn't seem to clean the smell and taste from everyone there, it just wouldn't go away.
The room was very somber on this 18th day, the group had pooled to the center of the room to sleep and await the monitor and the release of person number 18. Dean Rush sat there holding his tag, not hiding it from anyone. It wasn't because he was being brazen about it, he was wondering if anyone would ask him for it and honestly he kept rolling it in his head if he would give it up. What number would be the highest he would trade it for? He's felt that he's weathered these 18 days fairly well, he never got caught up in the craziness of wanting to hurt someone, he's survived the torture with only mild pain, he wondered how much more could he endure.
He made a half curious smirk and shook his tag, as if he were pondering something so small, like whether he should take an umbrella to work. But no one reacted, several watched him, but they didn't say a word. Now was this because they just assumed he was messing with them, or was it because they had been washed all night with defeat. Two of their strongest and most defiant had been taken away and apparently drained of their blood. Were they alive? Are they dead and all thats left of them is a husk somewhere and the rest was just running down the drain.
The monitor comes on, Liz sits there, she doesn't even get up, the P90s don't care, as long as shes in the group she's fine. Cipher goes on about Day 18 and the sad events of Day 17. She holds back any screams or questions, calling him monster, cursing him or wishing him dead, there is no point she thinks. The mouse in the maze has realized its a maze so now what does it do? Does she fight it, try and escape or does she choose to just sit there and do nothing? Cipher releases Dean, but before he goes he talks about how he would have traded places with someone if they would have asked, but apparently no one feels as though they can trust anyone here. She doesn't care. She looks over to the woman's group and sees Anne helping some of them, talking to the ones who just cry every morning, they're still running the maze. Jim seems to be plotting something with Scott and a few of the other men. But she knows its in vain, whats the point, she has no interest in a revolution any more.
For Day 18 Cipher has decided to fill their drinking troughs to the point where they will overflow. He's said that if they over flow and water hits the floor the floor will receive an electric shock he goes on to tell that its not about the voltage of the shock, its the amps that do damage. The first time water hits the floor the floor will be surged with 10 Milliampers causing a static shock feeling, or a low hum sensation depending on your tolerance. The second time it hits, the floor will turn up to somewhere between 10 and 20 milliampers causing a definite shock to the body, but you'd still have full muscle control. After that if water hits the ground again the amps will be turned up somewhere between 10 and 75 amps, this would cause severe pain, burning and loss of muscle control causing the victim to fall the floor resulting in further shock. The next level is 75 to 100 amps, this will cause ventricular fibrillation of the heart and damage is done to organs and third degree burns will take place. Finally if the room is dumb enough to let water hit again the amps will be turned up to anywhere between 100 and 200 amps. Like lightning across the floor, if someone or multiple people are hit directly with that level of ampage they will indeed die due to an explosion of their heart.
The room lines up and heads over to the trough, Jim and Scott seem to be making a plan on how not to have any water hit the floor but Liz is sure something bad will happen. She goes to get up and walk over when a hand reaches out to her to help her up, its Dalton. "What do you want?"
"I was just offering to help you up, why are you upset with me?" he grabs her hand and brings her to her feet.
"You know why, don't play stupid." she brushes herself off and goes to walk towards the water.
"Hey come one, they're my friends too, it was the right thing to do, its what they would have done." he says as he runs up to her.
"No, its not what they would have done. They would have taken all the punishment on themselves to spare us. If the option was theirs, then yes, that's what they would have done, but it was our choice, our decision to spare us and hurt them and I can't believe that's what you chose." she wags her finger in his face and he looks away
"I didn't want this, I didn't want any of this, when they come back we have to tell him everything, then he'll understand why we chose what we did." Dalton holds his head.
"You know you can't tell him that, and I know you won't because we know what will happen to you. So whatever Dalton, I'm going to go make sure no water hits the floor, you... you go do what you should, and whatever that is, be happy with your decision."
